Summary

Five kids seemingly forgotten by the world join forces to hone their skills and become real-life spies in this first novel of a brand-new series that #1 New York Times bestselling author Chris Grabenstein said "may keep you up all night--reading!" And it's perfect for fans of Spy School and Mrs。 Smith's Spy School for Girls

Five kids from around the globe。 Home is a castle on the coast of Scotland。 They attend an elite prep school, and just happen to be part of an experimental, off-the-books program run by Britain's MI6。 They call themselves the City Spies because the only connections they maintain to their pasts are the codenames taken from their hometowns: Brooklyn, Paris, Sydney, Rio, and Kat (short for Kathmandu)。

Overseeing the team is an unlikely pair: a legendary British spy thought to have been killed in a massive explosion and a brilliant biophysicist/cryptologist who is part Marie Curie, part Mary Poppins。 They help the five form a family while also training them in a unique blend of high tech gadgetry and old school spy craft。

This first story focuses on Sara Martinez, Brooklyn, who is a hacker。 She recently broke into the New York City foster care system to expose her foster parents as cheats and law breakers。 However, instead of being hailed a hero, Sara finds herself facing years in a juvenile detention facility and being banned from using computers for the same stretch of time。 Enter Mother, a British spy, who not only gets Sara released from jail, but also offers her a chance to make a home for herself within a secret MI-5 agency。

Before she know what she's doing, Sara is helping to hack into a rival team's computer to prevent them from winning, dangling thirty feet off the side of a building in Paris, and trying to stop a villain from releasing a deadly virus into the air conditioning system of a secure building all while navigating the complex dynamics of her new team。

Fun middle school adventure introduces readers to a new group of spy kids who work for MI6。 The books started slowly with a lot of character development, but got better as the story progressed。 Next up to read is the second book, City Spies Golden Gate。

Fun adventureDiverse cast of kids (from Puerto Rico, Rwanda, Nepal, Australia), with unique skills are brought together by an MI6 agent under deep cover to form a unique group of spies。Mostly the diversity shows up in the illustration of each kid at the back of the book and the fact that the writer tells us where they are from。 They all read like middle class white American kids, in spite of the fact that most of them were recruited as street kids or foster kids in their home cities。Still a fun Fun adventureDiverse cast of kids (from Puerto Rico, Rwanda, Nepal, Australia), with unique skills are brought together by an MI6 agent under deep cover to form a unique group of spies。Mostly the diversity shows up in the illustration of each kid at the back of the book and the fact that the writer tells us where they are from。 They all read like middle class white American kids, in spite of the fact that most of them were recruited as street kids or foster kids in their home cities。Still a fun read, clean, exciting, interesting mystery for middle grades。 。。。more

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 for this fun, action-packed adventure。 Sara, on trial in juvenile court for hacking the NYC juvenile system’s database, finds herself with a very。。。unconventional lawyer。 Well, he isn’t a lawyer EXACTLY, but he does manage to get her sentence moved to a fictional facility。 He then reveals that he is a spy for MI6, a British organization, and offers her a home and a chance to join an elite group of spies。 Sara is whisked into the world of spying, with plenty of adventures along the way ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 for this fun, action-packed adventure。 Sara, on trial in juvenile court for hacking the NYC juvenile system’s database, finds herself with a very。。。unconventional lawyer。 Well, he isn’t a lawyer EXACTLY, but he does manage to get her sentence moved to a fictional facility。 He then reveals that he is a spy for MI6, a British organization, and offers her a home and a chance to join an elite group of spies。 Sara is whisked into the world of spying, with plenty of adventures along the way。 There is a sequel, which I am excited to listen to as well!

B, L, and I liked this book and are looking forward to starting the next one!

This was fun, and I love each kid on the spy team。 I felt like the author skips over the big event that the whole story leads up to and it just ENDS—one girl finally accomplishes a crazy feat and then conveniently wakes up after it’s all over。 Everyone is safe。 Everything is good。 What? What else happened? I still think it’s the start of a fun series my kids will like though!

This book was pretty good! It was actually just what you need after finishing a long really deep book, but still want something that'll hold your attention and is slightly serious。 Wow that was really specific。 I thought that a lot of very neat things were thought of while writing this book。 You can tell that a lot of imagination went into it, and it all works very nicely。 The plot twists were excellent and I loved the characters。 Overall a really nice book and I enjoyed reading it。 Till next ti This book was pretty good! I think my lack of interest in this was my own fault。 I read it too soon after Six of Crows and was constantly comparing, and my attention definitely drifted from the audiobook a few times which made this a little bit lacking。 Loved the espionage and the Parisian setting!
